On Thursday (2nd) Ian flew out to Houston Texas, via Detroit where he was met by Teddy our resident American. The flights all went well and apart from being a really long day all went as expected.
Thanks to the time difference Friday dawned way too early and Ian and Teddy set off on what turned out to be a mystery tour of the city that is Houston. A massive city, home to of course NASA mission control and certainly what looks like the largest Oil refinery in the world.
Our first stop was Enterprise Rent a Truck there the lovely Maria had organised us a small pick up truck to pull the car and trailer to Utah. The small truck turned out to be a Ford F250 only about 8ft high with a very oversized engine. We approve!
We then headed off to see the equally lovely Sandra who has been managing the import documentation. On the way however we need to pick up a couple of items to modify the hired truck to take a UK spec tow ball.
After hunting high and low to find an camping store to get the correct items and following the advice of several local but incorrect citizens, we then found ourselves in Wal Mart on the wrong side of Houston. They really do sell anything!
We then headed off back to Sandra’s office. All the paperwork was in order and we were informed that although the boat was a day later than due, she had asked them to sort our container out ASAP and they did!
So with all the necessary paperwork we rushed back to the warehouse, not that far from the Wal Mart as it turns out. Ah, the best laid plans!
Once we got to the warehouse the work began.
The truck modifications were carried out, the wiring from a US spec trailer socket to the UK trailer was made up
The next step was to check the car, the loose equipment and then head back to the hotel for an early start on Saturday.
