Bonneville 2 The adventure continues

Ian Northeast 5 August, 2025

Well, excited reader, I’m sure you’ll be eager to hear what happened folowing the car oil explosion and the misbehaving Triumph.

The oil leak turned out to be nothing more serious than a loose oil filter on the car. Although incredibly messy it caused no serious damage and after a massive clean up effort from Bruce, Rich and Andy the car was up and running again.

The clean up on aisle car took some time so the Ian’s set to work on the bike.

The fault appeared to be the fuel pump, it sounded terrible and was not producing any pressure. Once the fuel pump and filter had been replaced, it was then noticeed that the main plug on the ECU had moved slightly, worked loose and created a bad earthing signal. Once this error was corrected and preventative messures were put in place we had the bike back on track.

Following Ian G’s disastrous visit to Bonneville in 2024 when the motorcycle failed spectacularly on his first run, the first order of the day was to complete a run and get a timing slip.

The organisers had set up a short course for rookies and those wanting to qualify for longer courses. This was the perfect proving ground for the bike and an opportunity for ian to get some much needed practice.

He’s asked me not to mention his first run so I wont, But suffice it to say his second run was a resounding success. He managed to complete the 2 miles without error or mishap and although he was stuck in third gear set a very respectable speed.

Whilst waiting on the start line for his next run we heard the terrible news of a serious incident on course number 1 involving one of the major cars at this event.

The causes are unclear at this point but half way through his run Chris Rashcke, the driver of the Speed Demon was killed when the car became airbourne. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his team this was a truly terrible incident and has brought home to everyone here quite how dangerous tightrope we all walk everytime we strap ourselves into our cars or sit on our bikes. R.I P. Chris.

News of Chris’s passing was not known but when the event was called off for the rest of the day everyone left the salt, concerned but in fair spirits.

As we went back to the bend in the road we were overjoyed to be joined by none other than Robyn Munro, granddaughter of the great and inspirational Burt Munro.

Tomorrow we will get back in the car and Ian G back on the bike to try and get a respectable speed on the bike.

Thank you and please spare a thought for Chris, his family and his race team.

Racing is not about how fast you get from the start line to the chequered flag. It's about the amazing people you meet, the fantastic places you go and the wonderful things you learn on the way.
